At first, starting a low carb diet was incredibly difficult because all I could think about was what I could no longer eat. And nothing was harder to get past than the thought that my glorious pasta eating days were over.

Well, maybe that’s a little dramatic (seriously though, I may have shed a tear).

However, not too long after starting the keto diet, we were able to find some delicious keto pasta substitutes.

This re-opened our world to eating our faves again, like spaghetti with meatballs and lasagna.

In this post, we cover the best low carb and keto pasta noodles to buy. These will allow you to cook your Italian favorites as well as some Asian noodle dishes!

Keto Pasta! Top 10 Low Carb Pasta Brands

#1 ThinSlim Foods Impastable Low Carb Pasta

ThinSlim (makers of the “Zero Carb” bread) have a lot of experience with making low carb dough. Their Impastable line of keto friendly pasta noodles is a great option.

We like this option because the fibers allow for a nice bite (al dente) and at 8g net carbs per serving, it’s a reasonable amount of carb content. Plus, unlike a lot of other low carb noodles out there, the pasta contains a relatively low amount of protein, between 4g-6g per serving.

Note: ThinSlim noodles are not labeled as gluten-free but are soy-free.

Ingredients: Oat fiber, wheat fiber, wheat protein isolate, egg whites, durum flour.

#2  Organic Soy Bean Spaghetti

The Only Bean Organic Soy Bean Spaghetti is some seriously amazing stuff for a bunch of reasons.

First, the texture is as close as it gets to al dente spaghetti without the high carb counts.

Next, the noodles are tasteless, so they make a great vessel for your pasta sauces. These are 9g net carbs per serving, but the servings are huge! We generally aren’t big fans of the concept of eating less of something to make it seem lower in carbs. But, we have found that when cooked, even half of the recommended serving is pretty sizable for these noodles.

Plus, the spaghetti noodles are made from 100% soy beans, which have one of the lowest glycemic indices of legumes at only a GI of 18. Further, because these noodles are made from organic soy beans, you mitigate any ill effects of conventional GMO soy beans.

Also note that the noodles contain 25g of protein (not surprising, since legumes are a good source of protein).

We believe low carb noodles should really be a vessel for the sauce or recipe you are using. These are our favorite at getting out of the way and not standing out. We use these all the time for our pasta recipes.

Low Carb Sauces?

We like to top the noodles with some delicious low carb sauces like Rao’s Arrabbiata Sauce or Organico Bello Spicy Pasta Sauce. Both have the lowest net carb counts out there for jarred tomato pasta sauce at 2g net carb per 1/2 cup).

Pro-Tip: The texture of the soybean spaghetti noodles also makes them perfect as a keto egg noodles substitute. The bite is very similar and the color is, too! These can be a bit al dente, so you can cook them as instructed on the box and then cook them down further when used in a stir fry recipe!

#3  Organic Black Bean Spaghetti

The Only Bean Organic Black Bean Spaghetti is made from 100% black soybeans. At 25g of protein per serving (compared to Cappellos which has only 6g per serving), you’re well on your way to hitting your protein quota for the day!

These noodles are also low fat at only 2g per serving, so based on keto’s high fat, moderate protein requirements, these might be best for low carbers.

The noodles don’t have too strong of a taste. Also, the texture is most comparable softer soba/buckwheat noodles. That means there isn’t a ton of bite but the texture is still good. These would be perfect for Asian stir fry as well.

Another awesome sauce for these keto noodles?

Alfredo sauce! Think about it: heavy cream, butter, Parmesan cheese and garlic. Come on, tell me that’s not the most keto friendly pasta sauce you’ve ever seen.

Also, it meshes well with the black bean spaghetti visually. Throw on a some grilled shrimp and garnish with parsley and you’ve got yourself a legitimately gourmet keto pasta meal.

Pro-Tip: Adding MCT oil to your pasta sauce is an easy way to inject ketone generators that help to negate the effects of carbs ingested. (We’ve listed our favorite MCT oil here).

These noodles come in at 10g net carbs per 57g.

[Temp Unavailable] Almond Love With… Almond Flour Noodles

Almond Love With is a newer keto brand that has come out with 3g net carb per serving ziti pasta noodles! The ingredients include: Almond Flour, Pea Protein Isolate, Oat Fiber, Egg Whites, Psyllium Husk and Xanthum Gum.

Check out our video review below for all the details!

Update 2020: Almond Love With is sold out of their pasta and is reformulating for a re-release in future

Asian Cuisine Low Carb Noodles

Now we’re getting into the ultra low carb category that is great for many Asian noodle dishes.

#4  Shirataki Noodles

Miracle Noodles have a 0g net carb count!

How is that even possible? Shirataki noodles are made from the root of the konjac yam and contain only soluble fiber. They are a traditional Japanese noodle, so your best bet for these are East Asian recipes from Japan or Korea.

low carb japchae

Some examples of classic dishes that work well with Shirataki noddles are stir-fried noodles:

You can also try Shirataki Miracle noodles with more Western type recipes, however, the results can be hit or miss. Be careful to read reviews and be especially mindful of mentions of texture, as that can vary wildly depending on how the noodles are prepared.

As a huge plus, these are relatively cheap, so you can pick some up to try without much risk.

But wait, there’s an improvement on the Miracle Noodles

Miracle Noodles aren’t the only brand of Shirataki noodles out there. Well Lean Organic Shirataki Noodles improve upon certain aspects of the more ubiquitous Miracle Noodles.

  • Organic konjac is the the main ingredient rather than the conventionally grown variety
  • Oat fiber is added to improve the texture, improving the noodles’ texture.
  • Citric Acid is used as the preservative rather than the calcium hydroxide in Miracle Noodles
    • This means no rinsing is required and there is no strong preservative odor that you get with the Miracle Noodles.

These have a similar price to other Shirataki noodles and are available on Amazon.

Another very similar option to Well Lean Noodles are Wonder Noodles.

#5  Zeroodle LIVIVA Organic Soybean Spaghetti & Fettuccine

Zeroodle’s noodles have a slightly misleading name. I’m not sure what the “zero” refers to in the name, but there are 5g net carbs per serving.

Note, the noodles are made from soybeans, in case you have a sensitivity or are trying to stay away from soy products.

No more misleading name for the Zeroodles! These were rebranded to LIVIVA and now come in a bunch of different varieties like black bean and shirataki/oat fiber. In fact, they now carry a nice rice/orzo shape as well. The more the merrier– plus they are all USDA Organic.

As for the soybean pasta, it’s still the same. They have kind of an instant ramen noodle texture if you prepare them per the instructions. That means they do decently well in non-Asian noodle or pasta dishes as well.

A nice recipe to try is stir-fried ramen noodles.

Here are all of LIVIVA’s keto pasta shapes:

#6  Kelp Noodles from Sea Tangle

Kelp noodles are a great option for individuals who are looking for a ZERO net carb keto pasta noodle. We also believe they taste best paired with Asian-influenced, especially stir-fry.

The texture is harder, crunchier than your typical noodle, but soften greatly as they soak up the flavors of the foods they are cooked with.

The only issue is you do have to cook them for quite a while in order to get them soft enough for an edible consistency.

Cooking Tip: Cook with something acidic/citric to help soften the noodles. In stir-fry, that might be something like rice vinegar.

Again, they are 0g net carbs per serving!

Hearts of Palm Noodles

#7 Natural Heaven

Natural Heaven makes a pasta substitute using Hearts of Palm. This is very low carb, but it doesn’t have the same texture as traditional pasta. It’s more of a “crunchy” texture, similar to that of stir-fried bamboo shoots that you’ll find in Chinese food.

Still, it’s super low carb and is a really great substitute in a bind. There are no other ingredients, so this is a great super low carb option that work great for normal read pasta sauces. They are not very nutrient-dense so be sure to add fats like butter/oil and/or high-quality cheese to make the best of Hearts of Palm.

2g net carbs per serving and the only ingredient is Hearts of Palm.

#8 Palmini

These Palmini Hearts of Palm were the original and they may have better availability in stores because of that. However, we rank these lower than Natural Heaven because this contains Water, Salt and Fumaric Acid, which is that smelly preservative that you’ll find in Miracle Noodle.

Low-ish Carb Pasta Options

Below are some lower / low-ish pasta options. They may taste more like traditional pasta with the higher carb content and are not ultra-low carb. But if you are less strict with carb counting, these may fit the bill.

#9  Cappellos Fettuccine & Lasagna Grain Free Pasta

This is Cappello’s, one of our go-to choices for keto pasta brands for a number of reasons. The absolute best part is that they come frozen and not dried!

Extremely simple, Cappello’s contains a total of only 5 ingredients, with the two main ingredients being Almond Flour and cage-free eggs. The other ingredients are the necessary binders of tapioca flour and xanthan gum.

These noodles are also grain-free and gluten-free, in addition to being low glycemic thanks to almond flour’s glycemic index (GI) of 0. They are also one of the higher fat pasta options out there, coming in at 11g of fat per serving.

Tapioca flour also has resistant starch, so if you cook then cool these noodles overnight and reheat them in the microwave, you will increase the resistant starch content, lowering the overall glycemic impact of the noodles.

Why is this important?

We’ve found that these noodles keep you satiated much longer than any other low carb pasta out there. So, a little really goes a long way! Resistant starch doesn’t raise your blood glucose, so the true impact is much lower than a normal pasta noodle with no resistant starch. Of course, this is difficult to quantify, but it does apply to the tapioca/cassava flour.

Cappello’s offers two different low carb pasta options, Lasagna and Fettuccine.

Both varieties contain 18g net carbs per 57g serving size.

Their keto pasta options are nothing but spectacular. And coming from a pasta aficionado, their noodles are certified delicious! That’s because as fresh noodles, they taste better than almost any conventional dried noodles you might be used to.

In summary, this is a low glycemic, low-ish carb fresh pasta. It’s a bonafide great-tasting pasta even compared to conventional pasta. Since it is nutrient dense, it will keep you satiated, so you can eat less of it.

Bottom line: This will hit the spot for any pasta cravings you have. It’s safe to enjoy in moderation when only the real thing will do.

Cooking Tip: They cook quickly! Adhere strictly to the suggested cooking time of 90 seconds to make sure the noodles come out al dente.

Note: Also available at Walmart and on Cappellos.com

#10 Al Dente Carba-Nada

This is a great dry pasta low-ish carb pasta option, though the name is misleading since it’s far from nada carbs. Still, they are reduced carb, around 17g net carbs per serving, which is why they are in our lower-ish carb section.

Still, The taste and texture are very good for a dry pasta (it’s mostly normal durum wheat semolina you find in regular pasta).
