A low carb, keto-friendly smoothie that you don’t have to make yourself? And it’s available at over 1000 locations worldwide? Yes, you’re reading that correctly–it’s real!

Smoothies are normally one of the most sugar-laden, high-carb foods out there. We have always thought of them as essentially dessert masked as “healthy” food. So, when we heard that Smoothie King came out with a keto berry smoothie, we were more than skeptical.

However, we made our way to Smoothie King to give their low carb smoothies a try and, to our surprise, everything checked out!

Smoothie King definitely did their homework, ensuring the nutrition was truly low carb, while maintaining the familiar taste and texture of smoothies that we’ve always enjoyed.

Alright, now onto the details! Smoothie King offers TWO keto smoothies.

Keto Coffee Smoothie (7g net carbs per 20 oz)

You can kind of think of the keto coffee smoothie as a blended coffee drink. However, this particular smoothie uses cold brew coffee, rather than the usual espresso. As a result, the coffee flavor isn’t as pronounced as you’d get in a Frappuccino from Starbucks, for instance.

Consequently, the caffeine content isn’t as high as a frappuccino either. Nonetheless, the cold brew does provide a decent coffee flavor.

Another thing to note is that there’s not much sweetness in the keto coffee smoothie. It’s likely that the only sweetness comes from the almond milk. Just like with any coffee drink, if you like it sweeter, add your own low glycemic sweetener. Some people may appreciate this, as coffee drinkers might not like their drinks overly-sweet.

Pro-Tip: Smoothie King now also carries SmartCake! A Lemon SmartCake (0g net carbs!) PLUS a keto coffee smoothie is the perfect pairing.

Keto Berry Smoothie (9g net carbs per 20 oz)

The keto berry smoothie is our favorite! It’s just slightly higher in the carb department, however it packs a ton of flavor via real berries. It actually tastes like fruit, which is certainly a good thing when you’re talking about smoothies.

The best part is that the regular 20 oz size is very filling, especially with how nutrient-dense the smoothies are. You could easily split a smoothie in half and refrigerate the rest for later. That realistically can cut the carb count in half.

Plus, at 7g and 9g net carbs respectively, most people can find a way to fit this into their daily macro goals.

Pro-Tip: If you are still worried about the carbohydrate content, simply drink this pre- or post-workout. Your body will utilize those carbohydrates floating around in your blood, so they are less likely to be stored as fat or glycogen in the body. Easy solution.

Summary

Smoothie King is the first big player in the smoothie market to come out with a low carb, keto-friendly smoothie. Enough can’t be said about that in an industry where the goal is to get you addicted to sugar.

Plus, the smoothies actually taste good and are filling. They were not scared to add fat and protein to these concoctions.

With Smoothie King’s wide availability, this is a no-brainer  if you’re a smoothie person and haven’t had a good store-bought smoothie in a long time. They also carry a lot of other fitness-related food brands, which makes it a nice convenient stop for low carb products on-the-go.
