With a menu chock-full of soups and salads, you could bet there would be a ton of keto-friendly options. However, the low carb options at Panera Bread are not as obvious as you’d think.

Perhaps the “Bread” in the name should’ve been a big warning sign. Even so, there are still plenty of keto Panera Bread menu items.

In fact, we found a total of 43 low carb options at Panera Bread!

We’ll walk you through each, below.

Quick Note about Panera Bread Nutrition Data

We love restaurants that provide fancy nutrition calculators that break everything down by ingredient for you.

Unfortunately, Panera is not one of those restaurants. Instead, they put together a 20+ page PDF without any detailed ingredient information.

As a result, we can’t tell the exact nutrition data for some of the menu items. Instead, we’ll make keto-friendly modifications (e.g, no croutons), but we won’t be able to provide exact numbers.

Hey, we’re working with what we’ve got.

Your Low Carb Options at Panera Bread

One of the most popular options at Panera Bread is the You Pick 2, which allows you to pick two half-portion combos of either salad, sandwich or soup.

We’ll break down each of the categories separately and then come back to build a sample You Pick 2 order.

Let’s start with the salads!

Salads are generally safer options at Panera, but there are definitely some gotchas to consider.

Here are some of the lower-carb salad options.

Note: We are estimating the carb content of ingredients like wonton strips and croutons.

  • Asian Sesame with Chicken – 16g net carbs
    • No Wonton Strips
  • Caesar Salad with Chicken – 11g net carbs
    • No Croutons
  • Greek – 7g net carbs
  • Green Goddess Cobb with Chicken – 18g net carbs
  • Seasonal Greens – 9g net carbs
    • No Balsamic Vinaigrette
    • Choose another dressing
  • Summer Strawberry Caprese – ? net carbs
    • No Balsamic Glaze
    • No Strawberry
    • Choose another dressing (the Olive Oil + Balsamic dressing hack works great here)

PRO-TIP: Dressing Hack

Hold the salad dressing and drizzle on some olive oil and balsamic vinegar instead. You know, that stuff you normally dip your bread in. This is a great low sugar option at Panera.

Just don’t overdo the balsamic vinegar, which contains around 3g sugar per tablespoon.

Low Carb Panera Soups

These are the lowest carb soups you can order at Panera. The slightly higher carb content of the soups is likely attributed to added starches used to thicken the soup.

Still, you may be able to fit one of these low carb Panera soup options into your meal, depending on your goals.

(And, remember, say no to bread rolls and bread bowls!)

  • Broccoli Cheddar (cup) – 15g net carbs
  • French Onion (cup) – 18g net carbs
  • Chicken Noodle (cup) – 18g net carbs
  • Ten Vegetable Soup (bowl) – 12g net carbs
    • Cup = 8g net carbs

Sandwiches (without the bread)

Again, we can’t determine the exact nutrition facts since Panera doesn’t list out the nutrition of their sandwich bread. However, if you simply ask for no bread, or just don’t eat it, you can still enjoy some of your favorites.

  • Toasted Tuscan Grilled Chicken
  • Roasted Turkey & Avocado BLT
  • Cuban Sandwich
  • Roasted Turkey, Apple & Cheddar Sandwich
    • No apple slaw
  • Bacon Turkey Bravo Sandwich
    • No sauce (or sauce on the side)
  • Steak & Arugula Sandwich
  • Heritage Ham & Swiss
    • Sub deli mustard instead of sweet mustard
  • Tuna Salad Sandwich
  • Turkey Sandwich
  • Mediterranean Veggie

To take the flavor to the next level, try some of these add-ons:

  • Tomatoes
  • Red onions
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Mayo
  • Spicy mustard
  • Bacon
  • Cucumber
  • Avocado
  • Gouda cheese

Low Carb Panera Breakfast Items

Panera Bread’s breakfast is a nice break from typical fast-food breakfasts. Specifically, they have steak, which a lot of other places don’t have. Fancy!

By far, the easiest thing to order is the Chipotle Chicken, Scrambled Egg & Avocado Wrap. It’s all neatly wrapped up, so you simply unwrap it and eat the contents inside.

You can also order the following items without any bread component (bagel, brioche, etc.)

  • Egg (fried or scrambled)
  • Cheese
  • Bacon
  • Steak
  • Sausage
  • Ham

You’ll definitely benefit from ordering these sides/sauces for some flavor and fat.

  • Roasted Tomato
  • Avocado
  • Chipotle Aioli Sauce – 1g net carb
  • Basil Pesto Sauce – 0g net carbs

Cream Cheese Spreads

In the portion sizes that Panera carries, cream cheese can be a nice addition to your meal.

Try including these in your meal to add some additional oomph.

  • Plain Cream Cheese – 4g net carbs
  • Reduced Fat Cream Cheese – 2g net carbs
  • Reduced Fat Chive and Onion Cream Cheese – 2g net carbs
  • Reduced Fat Garden Vegetable Cream Cheese– 2g net carbs

Absolute No-Nos

We like to put the no-nos at the end because, why focus on the negative?

Still, you’ll want to steer clear of these items.

  • Bagels
  • Breads
  • Souffles
  • Smoothies

Putting it all together: A Sample Low Carb Order at Panera Bread

Okay, let’s put together a sample Panera Bread order from what we’ve gathered. We’re using the popular You Pick 2 meal as an example.

Example Normal Panera Bread Meal

Cup of New England Clam Chowder (25g net carbs)

Asian Sesame Salad with Chicken, half (11g net carbs)

French Baguette as a side (35g net carbs)

Total = 71g net carbs

Example Lower Carb Panera Bread Meal

Cup of Ten Vegetable Soup (8g net carbs)

Caesar Salad with Chicken, half (7g net carbs)

Pickle Spear as a side (1g net carb)

Total = 16g net carbs

Summary & Tips

  • As you can see, you can save a significant amount of carbs by getting a pickle as a side rather than a starchier alternative.
  • Most half salads aren’t too high in carbs, in case you want to switch things up.
  • Most soups are deceivingly high carb, likely due to added starch/sugar.
  • You can also get a half sandwich and omit the bread. You can stick the meat on top of a half salad to make an easy, well-rounded meal.

Conclusion

We have found some decent low carb options at Panera Bread. Not everything is as keto-friendly as you would think, but using this guide, you can definitely find something suitable for keto and low carb diets.
